Awesome Choir of Rock (ACOR)
When I left CSI:Halifax in 2017, to concentrate on guitar with Musica Kirklees and also to avoid major roadwork disruption on travelling to Halifax, I wanted to explore singing with other groups. I hadn’t planned on joining ACOR at Ricky’s Rock School though, as it had been an all-female choir. In 2018 it became mixed voice and I braved becoming the first man to join. Laura Morrell, our brilliant choral director, now had the added challenge of arranging for Bass voice! Between then and my last session in 2020 we peaked at a whopping four male voices! When Laura left Ricky's in 2019 the talented Lizzie Joy Ross became lead and was coming into her own with the choir when the pandemic struck.
With a reasonably liberal definition of ‘Rock’ the repertoire was another contrast to the parallel folk centred Singing for Fun group that I had joined in 2017. Everything from Zombie to The Monster Mash!
